Although there was no purpose for one, a registered domain is a necessity when building a LAMP stack. A ‘dot com’ extension was chosen simply because it was the least expensive.

This LAMP stack was implemented when I first started playing around with Slackware Linux. It will soon be rebuilt on a mini PC, thereby eliminating the mid-tower case.
