MEDIA

PLEX

Plex is the primary media server used here. For those unfamiliar with the basics of Plex Media Server there’s an instructive article on digitaltrends. Plex is in a perpetual state of development with major changes occurring frequently. Plex is a commercial product and is not open-source.

These four steps are all that’s necessary to get started:

  1. Go to the Plex website and create a free user account.
  2. Inform your Plex administrator of your user name and you’ll receive an invitation, in your Plex app, to join their server.
  3. Accept the invitation and select MORE > to view their server libraries.
  4. Switch to Library view to display all library contents.

The suite of Plex apps currently consists of Plex for video,  Plexamp for audio,  Plex Photos for photos,  Plex Dash for server monitoring,  Plex Desktop for computers and Plex HTPC for casting. Plex can also be used with a browser and it’s easier to initially setup Plex in a browser.

Other than being a Lifetime PlexPass customer I have no affiliation with the company.
